Cycling in Cyprus
The 24 kilometre-long Geroskipou cycling route stretches between Geroskipou to the Monastery of Stavros tis Minthas, and then through the village of Tsada all the way to Paphos where it ends. In order to partake in this intriguing cycling adventure, however, you will need the convenience and mobility of a rental car because there is no public transportation in Cyprus – none at all. In terms of car hire Paphos Airport is your best option there. With your car rented and trip truly underway, you can easily rent bikes on your way to Geroskipou or once you get there.
As the route starts, you will be travelling towards Limassol along the old Limassol-Paphos road. Be sure to take a breather here and there as you are travelling at quite a high altitude at points. The altitude will actually increase after you turn left and head to Agia Marinouda in the north. You will pass through the quaint historic village of Marathounta. From there, you will climb even higher as you turn right and proceed uphill towards the village of Episkopi in the Paphos District. Before you reach the very top of the hill, you can take a dirt road to the left which will deliver you to the Monastery of Stavros tis Minthas.
The last three kilometres of this sprawling cycling adventure will take you back to where you began your trip. If you are again in need of car hire, Paphos airport will be a stop worth making before you collapse in a heap from exhaustion. If you are in Olympic shape, however, you can always just make a run to one of any number of beaches this lovely island nation has to offer. There is even one called Escape Beach that really lives up to its name.
